Focus discussions are an ideal time for you to encourage your employee to plan, schedule and take their annual leave each year. As a minimum your employees should take at least 3 weeks’ leave each year.
If your employee does accrue excess leave, they should plan to take that leave as soon as practicable. Agree a plan with your employee to reduce their leave balance to a maximum of 6 weeks. If a plan is not agreed, you may, by giving 2 weeks’ written notice, direct your employee
to take a period or periods of leave, provided that:
· the requirement is reasonable
· the employee is not directed to take a period of less than 1 week’s leave, and
· the direction does not result in the Employee’s leave balance being less than 6 weeks.
