Please be aware that SBS will not be offering work experience placements for students during 2024. It is anticipated the program will resume in 2025.
SBS will offer work experience placements to individuals wanting to try a career in the media. Usually, these are students from high school or university. Work experience is not paid.
An internship is a carefully monitored work or volunteer experience in which an individual has intentional learning goals and reflects actively on what he or she is learning throughout the experience. An internship may be paid or unpaid.
Work experience participants and interns are not employees. In both cases, it is crucial that the main purpose of the program is to provide the participant with a learning opportunity, rather than to perform work that an employee would ordinarily do.
All interns and individuals undertaking work experience will need to complete the non-employee online induction (see further on induction here). You must also use the following WHS Checklist for work experience individuals and interns when they come on site.
For more information, please see the Work Experience and Internship Policy. The Policy contains a template work experience agreement if the high school or university does not provide its own.
