From time to time, SBS engages volunteers which is a type of unpaid work. A volunteer is someone who does work for the main purpose of benefitting SBS. Volunteers are not employees and don’t have to be paid as such but the key things are that:
- SBS and the volunteer do not intend to create a legally binding employment relationship;
- the volunteer is under no obligation to attend the workplace or perform work; and
- the volunteer doesn't expect to be paid for their work.
You can use either the Volunteer agreement template (project-based) or Volunteer agreement template (non project-based), depending on the type of work.
The volunteer work arrangements should not be formalised (e.g. working to a roster) and it is important that the work is undertaken for selfless purposes or to derive some benefit (e.g. experience).
