If you have used up your leave it doesn’t mean you must go to work when unwell. If you are covered by the SBS Enterprise Agreement, SBS will in the first instance credit you with up to 1.5 days’ additional leave in advance of its accrual. At SBS’s discretion, it may then grant additional paid or unpaid leave or grant you the right to take leave in advance of its accrual.
If you are not covered by the SBS Enterprise Agreement, you may be able to access any other accrued paid leave such as annual leave or long service leave to cover the absences due to illness or injury. If you have no paid entitlements, you may be able to access unpaid personal leave to support your absence with reasonable medical evidence.
Where an employee has exhausted their accrued entitlement to paid personal/carer’s leave, they are also entitled to 2 days unpaid carer’s leave each time an immediate family member or household member needs care and support because of illness, injury or an unexpected emergency.
