We use a five point rating system from strongly agree through to strongly disagree. However we report
on a three scale system – positive, neutral and negative responses. The reason for this is because
research supports the notion that a five point question system is more likely to result in accurate
readings, because people will be less likely to select a neutral response if they in fact have a positive or
negative leaning towards the question – even if that leaning is not an absolute.
For ease of reporting however, a strongly agree and an agree will both be recorded as positive
responses and weighted equally, similarly a strongly disagree and a disagree will be equally weighted
and recorded as a negative response.
